Scienceguide.org heeft - ook voor Mission to Minsk - de miljoenennota gelezen en meldt vandaag als eerste:
“Het kabinet Balkenende-IV stelt 1 miljoen euro op jaarbasis beschikbaar voor opvang van onderdrukte studenten uit Belarus. De regering komt daarmee een toezegging na van de toenmalige bewindslieden Verdonk en Rutte uit voorjaar 2006. Het geld zal worden gestort in het zogenaamde Libertasfonds, waaruit ook de opvang van studenten uit roguestate Zimbabwe ondersteund wordt.
Aangezien hiermee een structurele opvangfinanciering verzekerd is, kan een blijvende zorg en opvang van de vervolgden uit het HO in deze dictaturen in ons land tot stand komen. Recent zijn in Belarus weer velen opgepakt en zijn ook veroordelingen gegeven wegens het lidmaatschap van organisaties die door het regime niet ormeel zijn goedgekeurd.”
Mission to Minsk stond aan de wieg van deze regeling.
Wit-Rusland is een beetje uit het nieuws verdwenen. Ten onrechte, want het regime blijft zich daar misdragen. Zojuist is bekend geworden dat Andrei Klimau, een Wit-Russische journalist, op 1 augustus 2007 in een geheime rechtzitting tot twee jaar cel is veroordeeld wegens een kritisch artikel over de politiek van dicatator Lukashenko op een internetsite. Volgens het wetboek van strafrecht in Wit-Rusland is het ‘via massamedia oproepen tot het veranderen van het constitutioneel systeem’ immers strafbaar.
Aanstaande ZONDAG 16 SEPTEMBER is het acht jaar geleden dat politicus Viktor Gonchar en zakenman Anatoly Krasovsky in Wit-Rusland verdwenen. Hun verdwijnen, en dat van twee anderen, herdenken Mission To Minsk en We Remember die dag in Den Haag. Onderaan deze mail staan details over het verdwijnen van Gonchar en Krasovsky.
DEMONSTRATIE
We beginnen met een korte demonstratie bij de Wit-Russische ambassade in Den Haag (het regime van Lukashenko wordt in verband gebracht met de vermissingen en weigert ze te onderzoeken). Dit doen we elke 16e van de maand, samen met anderen in steden als Washington en Warschau.
Omdat het op 16 september precies acht jaar geleden is dat Gonchar en Krasovsky verdwenen, willen we er deze 16e iets groters van maken, waarvoor we ook jou graag uitnodigen!
NEDERLANDSE PREMIERE VAN WIT-RUSSISCHE DOCUMENTAIRE “PLOTSCHA”
“Plotscha”, in het Engels ondertiteld, gaat over de mensenrechten en de gang van zaken rond de presidentsverkiezingen en de opstanden op het Oktoberplein in maart 2006. De regie van de film die in een Nederlandse vertaling “Plein” zou heten, was in handen van Yury Khaschevatsky. Tenslotte zullen we discussieren over cultuur en mensenrechten in Wit-Rusland.
De middag wordt georganiseerd door Mission to Minsk en We Remember. De demonstratie zal worden gehouden van 14.30 uur tot 15.00 uur bij de Wit-Russische ambassade in Den Haag, aan de Anna Paulownastraat 34. Vervolgens vertrekken we naar de nabijgelegen Alexanderstraat 18, waar om 15.30 uur de documentaire start, gevolgd door een debat over cultuur en mensenrechten in Wit-Rusland.
Omdat we ook Wit-Russen uitnodigen, zullen we waar nodig het Engels als voertaal gebruiken.

September the 16th, Solidarity day with victims of involuntary disappearances in Belarus
Dear friends,
Hereby I woud like to inform you that location and the shedule of the upcoming action that will be hold on Sunday, September the 16th, is clear. The action will take place in the Hague from 14:30 to approximately 18:00. The program of the event consists of two parts. You are welcome to join either both of them or the one which suits your timing most.
Let me remember you that on September the 16th 1999 two celebrated people of Belarus, Viktor Gonchar and Anatoly Krasovsky, were involuntary disappeared. The action is dedicated to their memory and is initiated by Dutch initiative “Mission to Minsk” and civil initiative “We Remember”.
The event will start with a peaceful demonstration dedicated to memory of Anatoly Krasovsky, Viktor Gonchar and other involuntary disappeared people of Belarus. Demonstration will take place from 14:30 to 15:00 across the Belarusian embassy, the addres is: Anna Paulownastraat 34, Den Haag.
Furtherafter we are moving to a hospitable house (Alexanderstraat, 18, Den Haag) where we will show a documentary about human rights in Belarus “Square” (”Ploscha”) by Belarusian director Yury Khaschevatsky (English subtitles are provided). For those who could not support the demonstration but are willing to watch the movie, it will start at 15:30, introducted by a foreword.
After the movie eventual questions will be answered and depending on the interest of the audience we willl hold a discussion on a topic related to culture and human rights in Belarus of today.

Civil Initiative “We Remember”
Viktor Gonchar. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, general secretary of the Economic Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States, chairman of the Central Electoral and Referendums Commission. From 1990 to 1995 was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus.
Anatoly Krasovsky. Prominent businessman, Krasiko LTD founder. Anatoly Krasovsky was abducted on September 16, 1999, together with Viktor Gonchar in Minsk nearby a public bath house.
In 2001 Petrushkevitch and Slutchek, the former KGB investigators now finding asylum abroad, made public known some striking evidence proving the existence in Belarus of the so-called “death division”, a force unit created by the government authorities and entitled notwithstanding the legislation to physically suppress the dissenters. The members of “death division” are considered to be the ones related to Gonchar and Krasovsky abduction.
The demand of disclosing the truth about the involuntary disappearances in Belarus has been persistently included into resolutions of the UN Human Rights Commission and OSCE Parliament Assembly. Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Naumov, head of presidential administration Viktor Sheiman, former MVD chief Yuri Sivakov and SOBR commander Dmitry Pavlichenko are banned from entering the U.S. and European Union countries for their likely involvement in those disappearance.
